We have tried to exclude a category from being allowed to use a coupon but this doesn’t work…

What kind of scenario do you want to accomplish?

    Please:
    1. Temporarily enable Settings > WC Extended Coupon Features > Debug mode
    2. Open the coupon admin page and go to the ‘miscellaneous’ tab
    3. Click ‘Coupon data as json’
    4. Send me that data

I’m trying to apply an automatic coupon across the store but there is a special offers category, I would like it so if a product from that specific category is in the basket, the coupon is then void, the problem is, that gets ignored.

It looks like that coupon has no discount and doesn’t have any excluded categories. Is the coupon published at all?

Yes, it’s published, and it does have a discount and excluded categories… it’s 50% off all and published.
    Excluded category is “Christmas”

Very strange, do you have multiple coupons with the same code?

If not, I need to take a look at your backend. Can you send temporary credentials to admin at soft79.nl?

Actually the Christmas category is excluded from the discount, that works as expected.

I suspect you don’t want the items of this category to count for the min amount of $ 30? In that case set “Minimum subtotal of matching products” to 30.
