Add conditional free product

I would like to add a free product to the customers cart when they add a specific product to their cart. ie, add “Widget 1” to cart, “Widget 2” will automatically be added to cart at no charge.

I’ve set the coupon up following the docs but the additional product is not added to cart, and no coupon is applied.

Discount Type: Fixed product discount
Coupon amount: 0
Restrictions: Product OR “Widget 1”
Free Products: “Widget 2”

What am I missing???

Check ‘auto coupon’. Also: the free product (widget 2) must be in stock, published (not private, but can be hidden) and have a price.

Yes, we have that setting as you suggest, as well as the other items on the list, but this is not working as expected.
