Eventhough I did check this setting, the X to delete the free gift from the auto coupon isn’t showing, so the customer can’t delete this.
How can I fix this?

The ‘delete’ should appear next to the coupon in the cart totals. It doesn’t appear next to the free products in the cart. If you can’t find it, can you please send and url to your site and steps to reproduce?
Thanks for your reply! Yes that works, but it would be awesome if free products could also be deleted by the X. Because that makes more sense for the customers.
Is that a possible feature for the future?
We are not planning to add that functionality. Is it a free item that the customer must choose? Then you could create a dummy (hidden) product ‘I don’t want a free product’ and allow the customer to select that item.
