automatic coupon based on custom field not applying

hi,
i have set up an automatic discount coupon to be applied on any product having the custom field “wpcf-sconto-automatico” value equal to “20”: it’s a 20% automatic discount, and it’s supposed to apply a -20% on the final product price, but it’s not applying both in the cart page (which HAS the subtotal row) AND the checkout page.

i carefully read the documentation, and i think i did a good setup, but the coupon it’s not automatically applying: i double checked directly on the db with phpmyadmin to see if the custom field’s name was stored with the exact name and YES the name is right; i also checked the value, and YES it is exactly “20”, as i set it up in the plugin configuration.

maybe i did something wrong during the config? to see this, please see the pdf with all the needed screenshot to debug the problem:

please note that the prices on the product page are WITH taxes, while in the cart&checkout pages the tax amounts are separated, so to compare the amounts you need to sum net price and tax in cart and checkout 🙂

i tried to:
roll back to WC 3.2.2 (last tested), but no luck
remove the sale price, leaving only the standard product price, but no luck

Hi,

are you sure wpcf-sconto-automatico is the exact name of the meta-field? Is it possibly prefixed by an underscore?

otherwise, can you confirm that the value is ’20’ and not ‘-20’ or ‘20%’ for example? You can try setting ‘%20%’ in the coupon field; % is a wildcard.

Please let me know… or if you know how to, please paste the meta-row from wp_postmeta as it is stored in the database.

thx for your answer:

1) yes the field name is exact
2) i also tried with the wildcard operator and still no auto coupon applying.
3) i con confirm the value is exactly the number 20, without any other element.
4) i also tried using the storefront theme (WC default) and nothing happens;
5) i deactivated all plugins except for WC, the coupon plugin and “toolset types”, the plugin i used to generate and manage the custom fields.

BUT

there’s a strange behavior from phpmyadmin: if i search the string “wpcf-sconto-automatico” from the db root, i get 2 results: but if i repeat the same search from inside the “postmeta” table and using the %LIKE% operator, i get zero results…

as far as i can see, when i search from the root db the system by default applies a conversion to UTF-8, and this conversion is not applied in the local table search:

so could it be a problem of encoding? to me it sounds strange, because there aren’t non-english characters in my custom field name and/or value.

LAST THING

if i export in mysql format the postmeta table and open it in sublime text, i find 2 occurrencies:

(5914949, 29179, ‘wpcf-sconto-automatico’, ’20’),
(5914574, 23746, ‘wpcf-sconto-automatico’, ’20’),

and if i grep the string via mysqldump command on ssh i get:
