Fixed Product Discount Exceeds Amount

I created a $300 product discount for a category, and when I have more than $300 in cart it deducts the total cart rather than just the $300.

It will deduct $300 from every product in the category. What exactly do you want to accomplish?

So I put $349 worth of product in the cart, and then applied the coupon. It removed $349 instead of just the $300. Does that make sense?

It does if there’s multiple products to which the discount applies.

Depending on your scenario you could change the discount type to “Fixed cart discount”.

We are doing free $300 worth of accessories with a purchase of a specific branded mattress. So I got it to take it off the accessories when there is exactly or less than $300 worth, but when the customer has more than $300 of accessories they cannot use the code for $300 discount and pay the difference.

Unfortunately WooCommerce doesn’t have a discount type for that use case. This would require customization.
