I have opted to use this for the coupon SUMMER20 where it requires 2 min items in the basket – when this isn’t seleted, the woocommerce default message shows and is NOT duplicated.
So it is 100% related to this section of your plugin.
Can you provide a fix anytime soon?

Thanks for this morning’s update – this appears to have fixed the issue 🙂
Going forward am I going to have any issues downloading updates, or will they be automatically available from the plugin section of my website?

When 3.0 is released you will receive automatic update notice. If a new 2.x version is released you won’t, but I hope the current 2.6.3 is the last one.
I do get the same behavior too. In some circumstances the cart message appears twice and I also solved it by disabling “Allow applying when invalid”.
Same story. Use version 3.0-dev.
